Under the blue dome of Mercury, Bahrâm
hears that intoxication, both literally
and metaphorically, may be remedied by
asking God for salvation. Beyond the four
classical elemental attributes of earth, water,
air and fire a fifth symbolizes the connection
between man and his maker which is
geometrically depicted by a pentagon.
My decorative motifs for the floor, doors
and walls are pentagonal or ten-pointed
stars. Under a five-pillared balcony, five
courtesans celebrate Bahrâm’s evening
under an arch of Sormehdan design,
reminiscent of Esfahan.
